World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10th October. I think it is great to have a day that helps raise awareness so the world can carry on thinking about the fact that mental health matters as much as physical health.
I attend “Playing With Words” a monthly session at our local mental health charity Mindspace. Run by my friend, former Stamford Poet Laureate Scott Coe, these sessions have helped my mental health a lot. They are fun, non judgemental and a lovely way to unwind and let my imagination fly.
For this particular piece of writing the prompts were phrases that never made it to the finished piece of writing by the author. Don’t ask me which author because I have forgotten (rolls eyes)
Could heart descent or wings aspire in the well of sanguine woe
This is what I wrote
I don't know...
anything is possible if you try.
That's what they tell you in all those self help reels and Insta memes. Just be you and you can be anything you want to be...
And of course if you want to know more about aspirations and rising up from the depth you find yourself in you should buy my book / join my course / sign up for my YouTube broadcast / subscribe to my podcast for eleventy million dollars an hour. That's the only way you can fix your mental health. Ha!
It is not an influencer you need to be you again.
You just need a friend, and the space to breathe.
Let me just make it very clear that I am not saying that you don’t need qualified professionals to help you get through tricky and difficult periods of life, especially when struggling with anxiety, depression, or a low mood. You may also need some medication. That is important. But the important words here are qualified professionals. Trained therapists, not social media “influencers.”
It is the people who care about you who give you a reason to be alive—to be you.
